Salzburg

Music and the sciences,
Deep passion and open mind

A good-night sonata… scented roses bowing their velvet heads before a baroque backdrop… glow-worms dancing in rhythm to the closing chords in the park – largo, passionato, pianissimo. Salzburg breathes music, from early morning until late into the night, from the Mozart Week in January, through the Festival in summer, to The Sound of Music.

Through the town, with its narrow alleyways, its spacious squares and Italianate fountains, its splendid palaces, elegant Mirabell Gardens and Hohensalzburg Fortress, we follow the footsteps of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart (1756-1791), who was born here and as a child prodigy grew to world fame.

Students from all over the world flock to the renowned Mozarteum University, whose history goes back to 1841. In 1920, Max Reinhardt founded the world-famous Salzburg Festival. The sciences are well placed amongst the musical legacy, the architectural jewels and cultural treasures. In 1908, Sigmund Freud held his First International Congress of Psychoanalysis in Salzburg, and in 1909 Albert Einstein first presented his Theory of Relativity here.

Salzburg is a meeting-place for music and the sciences – depth of emotion and alertness of intellect, pure aesthetics and human knowledge. An unsurpassed, even unique synergy – pomposo, vivace, grandioso.
